My Weekend: NICE. Why? No females in the house...wife at the sisters and daughter at friends houses all weekend...MAN LAND AHEAD, SIR! ALL HANDS ON DECK! Loved it...nothing but my shows and playing Crysis and GOW on the new gaming rig...and all without the disapproving looks and comments...the sister-in-law lives at the PERFECT distance...just close enough to drive to but just far enough away to be a pain to come home from!
Hoops: My Lakers put the miserable fans of the Jazz out of their, well, misery...couldn't happen to a bunch of nicer folks in Salt Lake City...absolute CRAP that they booed Fisher earlier in the year and for that, they deserve another season without a title and the tax exemption status revoked on the Mormon Church...that or the entire Tabernacle Choir should get a case of laryngitis for about 5 years...
Football(Soccer): Play up Pompey! Well, it took a run of playing nothing but crap English teams and a luck win against ManU along the way, but Portsmouth won the FA Cup for the first time in 70+ years...Fratton Park will have European Football next year...nice one...but the REAL biggie is on Wednesday...ManU v Chelsea...I still like ManU...2-0
Youth Soccer: Wanna get a real life education on politics without spending a small fortune on college? Put your kid in Youth PREMIER Sports...nothing more political that that! And I'm talking on a team, club, and state level! I'm ready to run for congress after being involved in Youth Soccer for 5 years...
Computer: Not much new here...Reinstalled my nvidia drivers cause Crysis kept crashing..solved the problem...but no thanks to the forums I sifted through...I read all kinds of shitty advice that if I had listened to them, I would have a brand new system as the "solution"...no, not really. Just need to reinstall the driver....problem solved...free of charge and took no time...so once that was solved, gamed like crazy for 2 nights...nothing wrong with that.
TV: Got mostly caught up on Earl, Office, and 30 Rock...Got to the Season Finale of 30 Rock...amazing writing and a hell of a cast...Not yet made it to the last Earl and Office shows...still on the DVR...
OH! Also got around to watching the Costas Now show where he goes into Sports and the Media...I generally like Costas and he's entertaining but that show was 90 minutes of gar-bauge...I mean he's always gone on and on with talk radio and tv but his hatchet job on Sports Blogs was pure doo-doo...talk about someone who just doesn't get it...besides the lunatic rantings of Buzz Bissinger in the segment, sounding somewhere in between a drunk dock worker and a lobotomized crack addict, Costas was so one sided in his hate of blogging, it was laughable. But when he read the COMMENTS from a blog post as an example of how horrible blogs are, I about fell off my chair! The comments? Really? That's why sports blogs suck? Talk about "NOT GETTING IT"...How about we trash the NY Times or Washington Post due to the quality of the "Letters to the Editor"?
The segment on Race was the most interesting segment. Wilbon and Whitlock were amazing...
The most entertaining segment by a MILE was the TV and Sports segment where Joe Buck said he would like to be referred to by his on-line name of "Ballz_Deep" and Dan Patrick soliciting work to get back on TV!
But Costas' tone was so one sided throughout the show, it was painful to listen to. Tone of the questions, his emotions when in his face when he would ask them, and his almost sickening nostalgia and love for newspaper writers was just too much. He acted like the sleaze and hype of sports was INVENTED in the last 15 years with ESPN and most recently, blogging. NONSENSE...can anyone question the venom that was spewed at Roger Marris when he chased 61? How about the treatment of Ali when he refused the draft?
Blogs are no different than print in that you can find blogs that are all commentary and you can find blogs that are all news...but to paint all blogs or blogging as a cauldron of hate and filth would be like saying all print is filth because Juggs magazine is printed on paper, therefore we should question all media printed on paper. At SOME POINT, there has to be common sense brought into the equation, yes?
That's it...go home
